Motorbike clothing consists of a helmet, jacket, trousers, gloves and boots. The cost of this equipment should be factored in when starting out in motorcycling as it is essential for safety and protection on the road, especially in the event of an accident. A complete set of motorbike clothing would, at the least, cost around £500 for serviceable gear and increase exponentially from there.

Motorcycle clothing in detail

Motorcycle jackets and trousers can either be bought as separates, a two piece suit, or a one piece suit. Track days usually require a one-piece leather suit or a two-piece suit which zips together.

Motorcycle jackets - made from leather, nylon or Kevlar. Protective padding is found on the elbow, shoulders and back. More substantial back protection can be purchased separately.

Motorcycle gloves - made from leather or Kevlar. Several different styles are available depending on whether they are for touring, sports riding etc.

Motorcycle trousers - made from leather nylon or Kevlar. For best protection, look for extra padding on the hips and knees. Jeans replicas are also becoming more popular because of their comfort combined with protection.

Motorcycle boots - are reinforced on the toes and ankles. The heel is flat and wide in order to fit on the foot pegs.
